उडने वाले हाथी! / Udne wale haathi! The Flying Elephants! - Fresk’Aty 3 -
Réaliser un avion sur ces murs de l’ancienne base aérienne de Frescaty m’a paru tout de suite évident (et parce que j’adore les vieux avions).
J’ai souhaité faire un clin d’oeil à une femme aviatrice, et Sarla Thakral m’a sauté aux yeux de par sa représentation, son sourire, son élégance dans son sari, affublée d’un casque d’aviateur. Elle fut la première femme indienne pilote d’avion à 21 ans. Les éléphants ailés sont issus d’un conte Gond, un des plus grands peuples de l’Inde. Selon ce conte, ces éléphants étaient les montures des dieux. Le mandala en anamorphose rappelle bien évidemment les représentations hindoues.
L’usage du bleu et des fleurs de la même couleur est une inspiration issue du bleu de Delft, porcelaine traditionnelle des Pays-Bas, qui est actuellement au cœur de mon travail.

It was obvious for me to paint a plane on the walls of the old Frescaty’s airbase (and because I love old planes)
I wanted to do a reference to a aviator woman, and Sarla Thakral was very inspiring because of her representation, her smile, her elegance in her sari, wearing a helmet. She was the first indian aviator woman at 21 years old. The winged elephants are from a Gond tale, one of the largest tribe in India. According to this tale, this elephants were the steeds of the Gods. The anamorphosis mandala reminds obviously the hindu representations.
The using of the blue colors and the flowers is an inspiration from the Blue Delft, dutch traditional porcelain, who is currently my main work.
